PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Citadel of Vauban dominates Besançon city. Also home to several museums, it is the first tourist site in the region. However, access to the site is one of the main inconvenience: with peaks of attendance at 2000 visitors a day, those who, at night, seek simultaneously to go down to the city reaching a flow of around 500 people, causing congestion parking and roads. Aware of those issues, Besançon agglomeration conducted a study highlighting the interest of an elevator as a way of accessing the site.

OUR APPROACH

Attentive to design cable car systems interconnected with other modes of the travel chain, we proposed to consider two issues on the one hand : spatial (layout of spaces, position of stops, pedestrian paths, accessibility) and temporal (time coherence with buses, seasonality). On the other hand, we do not perceive the elevator as a mere solution of transport; it must allow a dive into the world of the Citadel (visual / sound) and take it on a journey that links modernity and history. Taking into account the specific constraints required (topography / exceptional heritage character), besides the technical aspects, a specific treatment of the architectural and landscaping insertion and the impacts of the development on the attractiveness of the site.

Etiam magna arcu, ullamcorper ut pulvinar et, ornare sit amet ligula. Aliquam vitae bibendum lorem. Cras id dui lectus. Pellentesque nec felis tristique urna lacinia sollicitudin ac ac ex. Maecenas mattis faucibus condimentum. Curabitur imperdiet felis at est posuere bibendum. Sed quis nulla tellus.
