PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The objective of the municipality of Bramans was to consider the economic development of its territory by working on the promotion of the Espace Hannibal. The challenge: to successfully create an innovative and sustainable tourism product, to develop employment, to boost tourist trade and to cultivate links with the Italian municipality of Giaglione.

OUR APPROACH

In addition to the programming of Outdoor Recreational Activities involving local economic actors, we focused our strategy on greater involvement with the actors from neighboring territories. We thus proposed a France/Italy cross-border project based on the historic crossing of the Alps by Hannibal and his elephants, comprising a hiking trail. This common heritage-based thread flows through the program that we have rolled out in all of Haute Maurienne in association with the municipality of Giaglione. Gateways to each of the portions of the “Sur les traces d’Hannibal” (In Hannibal’s footsteps) trail will be created with a reception, information and orientation area to boost the local economy and promote local services, but also to channel flows in these sensitive natural sites. The study also included a section concerning the feasibility of an animal park and educational farm, as well as the assessment of the built heritage (barracks). MDP Consulting set up the project governance and, pursuant to this study, drafted the application for an Alcotra subsidy from the European Commission, which received a positive response.
