PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Municipality of Salazie, in conjunction with the “SPLA Maraïna”, wishes to install a cable system to transport both people and merchandise between the Hell-Bourg area and the Bélouve plateau, where, for many years, a cable system was used, but it was a cableway for material transport. Two departure zones are envisioned. This link would enhance the appeal of the area by creating attractive tourist and economic centers, with the possibility of giving tourists and residents in the surrounding area access to Bélouve. In addition, it would create alternative transportation during cyclones.

OUR APPROACH

It was necessary to determine the feasibility of constructing this cable transport system. Licensed by the State for project management of mechanical lifts, we were able to present the best solutions regarding the type of technology, possible routes (the study of lines), and conditions for access (frequency, user profile, noise, comfort). In addition, we provided solutions for the conditions of use (wind effects, maintenance, inspections) and costs (construction/operation). Since the municipality and the sites concerned are part of the Réunion National Park, and the Bélouve plateau houses a natural reserve, detailed maps of the area were produced and studied. A feasibility study was completed to analyze the environmental risks and sensitivities. A proposal with compensatory measures, as well as information regarding the feasibility of technical and regulatory issues was included. Lastly, technical specifications concerning the project management consultation were defined at the end of the assignment.
